Ding Dong: Someone Is At Your Smart Phone

Ring Wi-Fi Enabled Video Doorbell

Whether you’re home or away, you’ll never miss a visitor at your door with the Ring Wi-Fi Enabled Video Doorbell.

In a recent story, Forbes magazine explained: “The idea is simple. When someone walks up to your door, the motion sensor wakes up the doorbell and starts sending a video feed to the cloud. If the visitor presses your doorbell, you get an alert on your smartphone app and check out who’s at the door. You can then speak to visitors through the app.

The most obvious way people could use this is to get an idea who’s coming to your door whether you’re home or not. If you’re away from your house, for instance, you could still pretend to be home and possibly prevent a robbery from a potential bugler scoping out your house. But it could also be used for making sure the UPS driver doesn’t run off with your package before you make it to the door.

“The mission of our company is to reduce crime in communities,” said Ring founder and CEO Jamie Siminoff. “Protecting the home is part of it.”

The doorbell has a built-in HD camera and microphone, and connects to Wi-Fi so you can stream live video and audio directly through your smartphone or tablet with the free Ring app. When a visitor presses the button or triggers the Ring Doorbell’s built-in motion sensor, the camera activates and also sends you a mobile notification, giving you the option to either ignore the ring or answer your door remotely via two-way communication.

Motion-Activated Video Around the Clock

Stay connected to your home day or night, from anywhere. The Ring Doorbell has integrated IR LEDs to provide night vision. Anytime of day, the motion sensor can detect activity, trigger a notification, and activate the camera to capture HD video and audio.

The motion sensor detects activity up to 30 feet away within an 180-degree field of view. You can optionally customize the field of view by adjusting the range (down to 5 feet minimum) and/or by masking individual zones of your property. This helps prevent unwanted notifications.

Remote Access Through Smartphone or Tablet

Anytime the doorbell button is pressed and/or motion is detected, you will receive a push notification on your mobile device. The doorbell can sync with multiple devices, allowing every member of your household to communicate with visitors at your door.

Optional Cloud Recording

Great for added security, the Ring Doorbell works with an optional Cloud Recording service, available for a small subscription fee ($3 monthly or $30 annually). This service allows you to record and store all video footage in the cloud. You can access stored footage anytime through the free Ring app.
